Where To Learn How To Do Makeup

Post collage: This post highlights the pros and cons of Ulta and Sephora makeup classes - from cost, to what you learn, and what you take away. Read my breakdown and see if you should attend!

Well hello there! And happy Thursday to you lot. Today I've got a super comprehensive look within my experience taking some makeup/skincare classes at Ulta and Sephora. I know information technology is quite the departure from my food/recipe posts, but I learned a ton from these classes and thought it would be a fun post to share with you all!

Starting time off, how many of yous knew you tin can actually have classes at a local Ulta or Sephora? This is something new that I learned back in 2017. The classes at each shop are quite unlike, so I'grand going to do a detailed breakdown of everything yous demand to know - in case this is something y'all'd be interested in trying!

Ulta

How to nourish: the Ulta classes are centered around a specific brand/line of products and are led by brand representatives for that product (Non actual Ulta employees). This is a great type of class to take if yous want to acquire more about a specific brand and grow your sensation nearly all that brand has to offer. I learned most the Urban Decay masterclass at my local shop when they placed a flyer advertising it into my bag at the checkout line. The grade schedules are non listed online. I would recommend calling/visiting your local Ulta (observe yours here) or follow the individual Facebook page for your local store to continue rails of their events.

Price: For the Urban Disuse masterclass, a $100 souvenir carte du jour buy was required and served equally your ticket to the class. Even though they pushed you to buy Urban Decay products at the stop of the grade, you did not have to spend your souvenir menu.Since the course I took was just before the holiday flavor, I was ok with buying the gift card for that amount because I knew some of the people on my souvenir list wanted things from ULTA. I also knew going into it that I wanted to buy the UD makeup setting spray.

What you lot learn:This was the fun function! Upwards until the course, the only UD production I had owned was the Naked Two Palette. I was not super familiar with other products in their brand, so it was a adept opportunity to try some new things. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that over the form of the 2-hour class, we would be led through applying a full confront of makeup (from primer all the way to setting spray) and that we could apply Whatever and As MUCH of an Urban Decay product that we wanted to.

The class size was limited to 12 people, and we had 5 reps facilitating the class. This was good considering anybody got ane-on-one help multiple times over the course of ii hours. The began by asking us what our skin type was and if we had whatever major pare concerns, then went on to friction match each person with a primer, foundation, and concealer that was suited to their makeup goals.

After we had our color matches, we were able to cull our own eyeshadow palette, blush, brow products, eyeliners, mascara, setting spray, highlighters/profile powders and bronzers (each rep was shut by to give recs if y'all didn't know what to cull. Nosotros each had our set of UD brushes to apply the makeup with. Y'all could fill in all the products you lot used on the sail in the photo above and take notes about the techniques they taught and your thoughts on the products. Nosotros were then led through a step-by-step walkthrough of applying the makeup.

Overall, I was pretty impressed with the thoroughness of what was taught. Nosotros learned what castor to utilise with what product, how to play up our best facial features and right whatever skin concerns with products and techniques. I loved the fact that we could attempt any we wanted. I chose to utilize the Naked II palette that I already endemic because I wanted some suggestions on looks I could create with it that would change upwardly how I ordinarily use information technology (being the applied gal that I am!).

When it was all said and done, I had on Manner much more makeup than I normally wear. It was kind of foreign to await at myself! I knew going into information technology that Urban Disuse'due south signature looks were more total coverage/edgier than I like with my makeup, but it was fun to try something new. I was a chip overwhelmed by all the steps and products needed to create my "wait," and don't think what was suggested was practical for everyday wear. Overall, I think this is a fun make to experiment if you want a glam/rocker look for a concert or fancy event.

What y'all take away:The class advertorial flyer fabricated the promise that y'all would get samples for attending. Unfortunately, this wasn't quite the case - the samples were distributed on a tiered system depending on how much coin yous spent that dark, with a $75 minimum purchase. I only spent $50 that evening (and actually concluded upwardly returning one of the items because I didn't like it with my normal makeup routine), then I didn't go any samples!

Beneath you can meet the looks that my friend and I created - although I liked my expect, it was fashion likewise much makeup for me to wear every day! I will file the info away for a special occasion blazon of night!

Pros:

  • Proficient style to get familiar with a specific brand
  • You can effort any products in their line
  • You earn Ulta rewards points for the souvenir card purchase
  • The individual attention you get ensures yous will use the right products and learn new techniques

Cons:

  • You lot tin't sign up for the grade online or see a schedule online (must contact the shop)
  • No samples provided without a minimum buy
  • You have to buy a $100 gift bill of fare
  • Sales reps were fairly pushy at the end of the class

Sephora

How to nourish: the Sephora class schedule can exist accessed here. You but put in your goose egg code and it will pull up a listing of classes beingness offered near you. You can easily register online with just your name and e-postal service.

Cost: Gratuitous for all dazzler insiders (which is also complimentary - you just need a Sephora account)!

What you learn: the theme for the form I attended was all nearly skincare. It was a i ½ 60 minutes class devoted to helping yous identify your pare type, skin concerns, and so leading you through the steps of a proper, individualized skincare regimen. At that place were eight people in attendance in the class (with room for 12) and v Sephora employees (each with their ain expertise) leading the states through the class.

In one case nosotros had our skin type/concerns identified, we were given products that suited our profile and were led through the post-obit steps: makeup removal --> cleansing  --> toning and/or exfoliation --> oil or serum --> eye foam --> moisturizer --> bb or cc foam --> light makeup --> facial spray. If y'all already had detail products in heed that you wanted to endeavor for whatever of these steps, they would swap out annihilation they recommended with whatever you wanted. Seriously, yous could endeavor anything in the store! Below were some of the products recommended for me (I swapped a few out for others):

IT CC Cream | Caudalie Vinosource Serum | Fresh Soy Face up Cleanser, Heart Cream, and Face Cream, Face up Cream

How to attend: Cost: What you learn: What you take away: Pros: Cons:

Amore Pacific Handling Cleansing Oil | Amore Pacific Treatment Cleansing Oil

I LOVED all of the data that was presented and learned so much virtually the process of proficient skincare. I had a lot of questions going into the class and was so happy that they did an in-depth word of specific ingredients in peel care products, what they practise, what to avoid, and and so on. Information technology was extremely informative. My peel has changed pretty dramatically over the by 3 years - I'm certain it is due to aging and moving from TX --> NE --> MO -- > TN all inside 4 years (since the climates are and then different). It was nice to get recommendations specific to what I was concerned about. I loved that they didn't promote just i item brand and that you could effort a product in any cost range.

When the form was over, I had a fresh "no makeup" await that I loved an would wear for casual days at home or running errands. My pare felt so make clean, refreshed and moisturized. Plus, I loved the healthy glow that the steps helped me achieve - I truly concord with philosophy presented in class that if y'all intendance for your skin properly, you will spend less Time and Coin trying to cover up bug with makeup and time-intensive makeup techniques.

What you lot accept away: much to my please, we were given samples of pare care products just for attending. We could likewise request samples to take home of whatsoever product nosotros wanted to endeavour for a few days to make sure it did what we wanted it to. This was so overnice because you actually want to make sure something makes a difference earlier yous invest in it! Below is my fresh/natural look after the class:

Pros:

  • Piece of cake to access the schedule to sign up online
  • Omnipresence is Gratuitous with no buy required
  • Gratuitous samples
  • Small grade size and lots of private consultation
  • You tin try Whatever product you want in the store

Cons:

  • Classes aren't offered as oft as I'd like and there are not many fourth dimension choices (almost are but offered on Sunday mornings and in big cities)

Main takeaway/What I actually use/own/purchased - my primary takeaways were that I was using toner incorrectly (I should not exist using it to take makeup off; merely to color correct), that a cleansing oil would be really helpful for my dry skin (the i I tried felt So good) and that I was already on the right track with the serum, eye cream, and moisturizer I was already using. I ended upward finding a great deal online for a Clarisonic with a bundle of IT products online after the class, so I purchased that bundle feeling very confident/informed about what I was buying. Stay tuned for what I call back of the Clarisonic! (Update Bound 2018 - Dear the Clarisonic. I tin definitely tell a deviation in my pare. My pores look and feel so clean. It travels well and stays charged for well-nigh a week.)

Tips:

  • If you are in the market place to attempt a Clarisonic - At that place is a not bad selection on Amazon. You tin become bundles with multiple brush heads and most include some great cleansing products - store all their bundles here as well (QVC).
  • I accept institute some truthful trophy-worthy steals on pinnacle-of-the-line skincare products at TJ Maxx. I scored an Ole Henriksen serum kit, a set of Origins masks, and found a Glow Recipe mask for my friend - they were being sold there only considering the company fabricated a change in the packaging design!

I promise that was informative. For more on mode look over my way folio. It has all my posts in this category. New hither? If so, and you want to know more well-nigh other fun things I post almost.
